how does therapy work?

Although, psychotherapy and social work are regulated health professions in Ontario, they are unfortunately not covered under OHIP, OW or ODSP.

The majority of extended health benefits, however, do cover psychotherapy and social work services. You are encouraged to speak with your insurance provider about counselling services provided by a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist to determine your eligibility and approved rates of coverage. We do not reimburse sessions if it turns out you do not have coverage.

are fees covered by OHIP?

We try our best to accommodate your needs and offer limited spots with our therapists for sliding scale rates. Please inquire by asking your therapist during the consultation.

do you offer sliding scale rates?

Yes, low cost therapy is available with our interns.

do you offer low-cost therapy?

psychotherapy refers to the process of working with a skilled therapist who uses evidence-base therapeutic interventions to help individuals explore, understand, manage and cope with difficult experiences, emotions and various life transitions.

what is psychotherapy?

Everyone experiences periods in their lives where they can use some help. Psychotherapy can help individuals gain a fresh perspective in order to better navigate the difficulties they're facing - this can happen while you receive the necessary support throughout the process.

who can benefit from psychotherapy?

Introductions: You and your therapist will get to know each other and you will get a sense of how the two of you will communicate with one another. And, you will fill out a consent/ intake form prior to your first session.

Establishing Needs: You and your therapist will cover why you are seeking therapy, certain things you would like to address and your experience with managing your mental health.

Asking Questions: In order for your therapist to understand what you need from therapy, your therapist may ask some follow-up questions.

what can i expect from therapy?

For now, we are operating virtually.

do you operate virtually or in person?

  • Have a box of tissues, water/beverage of choice

  • Quiet, confidential space where you can openly speak (like in your car, room with noise machine and DND sign, office, backyard, closet, park, quiet parking lot

  • If using phone for video call - have a phone mount and put it on DND so it doesn’t cut off our connection if you get a phone call

  • Use google chrome or firefox for best connectivity

  • Notebook and pen to write concepts that resonate during the session

  • Be in a well-lit space where the therapist can fully see you above your shoulders (not in front of a window as the shadow makes it difficult for the therapist to see your face)

  • Seated in a comfortable chair

  • Blue light glasses and yellow-tone screen - maintain distance from the screen
