Hello and Welcome! You are taking an important step in your life journey and I'm so glad that you are reading this to consider your options and come to a decision about choosing a therapist. Here's a little bit about myself and my therapy style:
I’m Sheffy Bhayee, a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario as well as a Canadian Certified Counsellor. I provide psychotherapy to individuals over the age of 12 for a variety of presenting issues. I am based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with two locations to serve you; Brampton and Downtown Toronto (Yorkville). I encourage you to contact me via phone or email to discuss your concerns and possible options for therapy with me.
It is of utmost importance to me during a therapy session to ensure that you feel safe, comfortable and supported. I use an integrative approach in conducting psychotherapy, which means that I draw elements from a variety of evidence-based interventions (standard practices that are validated by research). Some of these interventions include:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Brief Solution-Focused Therapy (BSFT)
- Narrative Therapy
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
I graduated with a Master's in Counselling Psychology from Western University. While I was studying in London, ON, I had the amazing opportunity to work as an Intern at Psychological Services within the Student Health Services at Western University. I felt truly rewarded to bear witness to the journeys of countless individuals (students) as they moved through challenging situations using their personal strengths and coping skills learned in our therapy sessions to move towards their goals. I provided a number of mental health services to individuals dealing with challenging life experiences such as
- Relationship Difficulties,
- Coping with Life Transitions: getting married/divorced, graduating, starting a new job, living away from home
- Procrastination and Depression,
- Learning Difficulties,
- Social Anxiety, Panic attacks, Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- Grief & Loss,
- Physical/Sexual Violence,
- Trauma & PTSD
I am a first-generation South Asian immigrant and I care deeply about supporting individuals using a trauma-informed, culturally-sensitive lens. I had the privilege to work with Settlement Workers to understand the settlement needs and challenges of Female Syrian Refugees. Some noteworthy results of my study reveal the strengths in preserving one's cultural identity as a means to successful acculturation. I find the area of personal identity to be fascinating and I invite you to share your identity (trans)forming experiences in our session together.
I truly care about my clients’ well-being and I aim to provide effective mental health services catered to your goals. I consult with a Registered Psychotherapist on an ongoing basis to ensure that the best care is being provided to you. It can be an important decision to choose a therapist that fits well with you, and I'd love to speak with you to answer any of your questions/concerns.
for a free 15 minute consultation (phone or in-person).
